Lachrymal Quietus - New Website

Well, I was thinking about my target audience and figure that style is more important than Flash. A simple, dark and elegant design suits my needs best. Below is a sample of what it looks like. It should be online soon. My only concern is the amount of space I have alloted for content. The site must feature a complete discography which certainly will not fit in that box if it is to include all track information as well as a cover art jpeg. My other option is to make a basic discography and if people wish to see more they may click to open the discography in a new window. Some things to consider. I'll talk it over with Bob and Aron, see if they have any suggestions.

Sunday Morning

Before there was Lachrymal Quietus there was Split Serenade, a band with many problems. We had more member changes in a year than any high school band should ever imagine. Anyway, in grade 11 I wrote this song, Sunday Morning, which was at the time very emotional, it still reminds me of the incident it's about. Well, completely by random I found an old Apple Paint file called "Sunday Morning single.cwk" Opened it up and here's a little design I did for the song. Sort of along the same lines as the brochure I made in Semester 2 Illustrator class. I think the design makes it pretty obvious that I listened to a lot of Numetal at the time. *embarrassing* On the plus side, this is probably one of the most commercial songs I ever wrote... if that's a plus?

Lachrymal Quietus - Udjat for Awakening

I shot this video in second semester to be played on a television screen in my final project, Through Doorways. It runs on an Ancient Egyptian myth of the udjat, The Eye of Horus, which was said to have the power of healing, and even the ability to resurrect the dead. (really a fascinating myth, read it)

The problem at the time was that I couldn't find any audio to suit it, so when it appeared in full in the bonus features it had no audio. A semester later I was walking home from school and by chance thought of this video and as if by magic heard the song in my head. I got home, recorded a first draft, made a few revisions and recorded it. I'm actually quite amazed how well it works with the flow of the video considering they were written separately but fuse together as if conceived together.

Now, my film snob friend thinks the video sucks, but I think the shot composition, colour and pace sing the threnody eloquently. Please enjoy Udjat for Awakening.

So February 2nd is my next show... also my birthday... should be interesting. Hopefully Bob and Aron can be prepared by then, otherwise it's another solo performance. I'm thinking of playing a couple new tracks.

I'm thinking of playing The Final Yearning. It's complex, mostly in alternating bars of 5/8 and 6/8 with some 9/8 and 3/4 variations thrown in there. for the intro to The Final Yearning I think I'm going to play Franscisco Tarrega's "Endecha," a very beautiful song by a great 20th century guitarist. Funeral Procession is, in a word, a lament. Just wrote it the other day. The first good thing to come since I bought the looping pedal last week. After that I think I'll play "Nothing, Anything." I hope Aron can get his drone textures mixed accordingly in time. Plus I need to test out the updated loop arrangement for it, make sure the guitar and synths compliment each other.

Anyway, I really want to release a new CD so I'm depending on these guys to be a little more reliable. Apparently I've release 10 CDs, says my mom who had been reading a very outdated resume of mine. That means I must be at...oh... atleast 13 by now. Kind of disgusting really.

Music should not be my life... sadly, it is.


btw, the picture at the top is the cover for my CD "...a tearful release," my first Lachrymal Quietus CD to feature guitars. The cover for my next CD is going to be very unique, look forward to seeing it in the next couple of months.
